He-man (or as he is known before transforming, Prince Adam of Eternia), is the child of King Randor and Queen Marlena who are the rulers of Eternia. Inside Castle Grayskull is a sorceress who gave Adam the ability to transform into He-man. How he does this is by raising his special sword and loudly saying “By the power of Grayskull”, he is then surrounded by lightening and lights and transforms. On completion of the transformation,while still holding the sword aloft he shouts “I have the power”. He then points his sword towards his pet green tiger, who when struck by the lightening transforms to “Battle Cat”. The tiger is actually known as “Cringer” and is a coward in his normal form, once transformed he is armoured and very brave. He is He-man’s steed and fighting companion when they are both in hero form.

Teela is Captain of the guard and as such is entrusted with the safety of Prince Adam. She is blissfully unaware of his alternate identity and regards Prince Adam as lazy and a coward. Adam and Teela grew up together as Teela is the daughter (albeit adopted) of Duncan “Man at Arms”. Duncan can usually be relied upon to bring forward new weapons or devices to help in the battles.

Only a few people are aware of the double identity of Adam, he wants it to remain that way as he is fearful for his family if it is ever known who he is. In fact only four ever know his other identity, and of course one of those is the sorceress who granted him the ability to transform. In addition to granting him the transformation ability, she can communicate with Adam/He-Man telepathically.

The main villain in the piece is Skeletor, blue skinned sorcerer with a skull for a head. In addition to being skilled in all forms of combat, he knows and practices black magic. He is a demon from another dimension, but his origins are actually unknown. He does, of course, as every self respecting villain, have a bunch of henchmen to assist him.

He-man has other abilities in this form. Mainly he has (as most super heroes seem to possess) super human strength, he can lift mountains and icebergs, tossing them far away from where he is to the target some distance away. He is also incredibly acrobatic and speedy, handy for getting away from the bad guys! He does not like using violence and will really only use force when other means have failed.
