The Green Lantern is the latest superhero to come alive out of our comic books and onto the big screen. Alan Scott is the name of the super being known as the Green Lantern and he was penned by the writer Bill Finger and brought to live in comic drawings by Martin Nodell. Our green and black suited do-gooder came into action over 60 years ago in 1940 and his revival has taken place this year in the cinema with the latest block-buster film released only this summer of 2011.

The Green Lantern legend consists of actually more than one person because they are a group of super heroes that each have a power ring that gives them total power and control over their physical world providing they are strong enough mentally and physically to make it happen. The power ring is an extremely powerful weapon with tremendous gifts of power, so it does have to be used wisely or it can be a very dangerous tool in the wrong hands. Only the Guardians of the Universe are those capable of deciding who indeed is a valid candidate to be worthy of wearing the ring.

There is a super-powered police force that exercises its good deeds throughout the galaxy to ensure the well-being of all the planets’ good people and these are the Green Lantern Corp. Throughout the universe they will look after the interests of the good citizens and with their super-powered rings provide justice against criminals at all times.

The Green Lantern film is all about a test pilot who is lucky enough to be granted a mystical green ring which allows him to become a superhero looking out for criminals and being them to justice and maintaining peace and tranquility wherever possible in space. His exploits are enjoyed by young and old alike and he makes quite an impressive figure indeed.

The Green Lantern suit is all about making an entrance and the great thing is that it is not your typical superhero outfit. This is not as old hat as Superman or Batman. This is the new kid on the block and totally the best costume to have in your wardrobe!

As far as the film is concerned this is perhaps just the first of an intended triology so the Green Lantern is going to be around for a while yet.

The famous comic book champion and assistant to the Gotham City Police is Batman, who is again supported in all his fights against the Gotham City criminals by Robin. Robin is always portrayed as a young capable man standing side by side with Batman as saviour to the city’s worst criminal deeds being carried out by The Fiddler or The Joker. Batman’s character in the comic books comes alive and becomes defined by way of the personalities around him – on both sides of his being. For example Robin is there in the melee supporting and yet looking out for him. A team that works well together but nevertheless Batman is always the leading man. So both heroes and villians help to build a picture around the definition of Barman and Robin as the protectors and collaborators with the Gotham City Police to ensure the citizens can walk the streets safely at night.

It was mentioned that Bruce Wayne’s (Batman) girlfriend befriended young Robin who was with a travelling circus and they take him under their wing so to speak. Robin rewards Batman with his undivided devotion to the same ends that Batman is trying to achieve – rid Gotham City of the wierdos that put it in danger.

Robin is therefore agile and a worthwhile ally to help Batman fight the baddies due to his certain training in the circus environment.

Robin is a fantastic party or Halloween disguise to wear for maybe the younger brother or the father’s son. You would make the perfect team of Batman and Robin – and why not get Mum to go a Batwoman?

Robin’s colors are much more juvenile – red and yellow and grass green in firm contrast with the dark Batman outfit. Robin enjoys one of those flying capes just like Batman and even Batwoman.

He wears a little eye mask which only partially hides his real personality, but of course it is not as important to hide his identity as Batman’s is. No-one should find out who Batman really is, the playboy millionaire, not even his several lady friends are aware of this.

Batman is involved romantically with many women throughout his various incarnations. These range from society women such as Julie Madison, Vale, and Silver St. Cloud, to allies like Wonder Vale, and Woman and Sasha Bordeaux, to even villainesses such as Catwoman and Talia al Ghul, with the latter of whom he sired a son, Damian, and with the former of whom sired a daughter, Helena (on Earth-Two). While these relationships tend to be short, Batman’s attraction to Catwoman is present in nearly every version and medium in which the characters appear. Authors have gone back and forth over the years as to how Batman manages the ‘playboy’ aspect of Bruce Wayne’s personality; at different times he embraces or flees from the women interested in attracting “Gotham’s most eligible bachelor.”

Other supporting characters in Batman’s world include former Batgirl Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter who, now using a wheelchair due to a gunshot wound inflicted by the Joker, serves the superhero community at large as the computer hacker Oracle; Azrael, a would-be assassin who replaces Bruce Wayne as Batman for a time; Cassandra Cain, an assassin’s daughter who became the new Batgirl, Huntress, the sole surviving member of a mob family turned Gotham vigilante who has worked with Batman on occasion, Stephanie Brown, the daughter of a criminal who operated as the Spoiler and temporarily as Robin, Ace the Bat-Hound, Batman’s Canine partner;[125] and Bat-Mite, an extra-dimensional imp who idolizes Batman.[125]

When Batman is needed, the Gotham City police activate a searchlight with a bat-shaped insignia over the lens called the Bat-Signal which shines into the night sky, creating a bat-symbol on a passing cloud which can be seen from any point in Gotham. The origin of the signal varies, depending on the continuity and medium.

In various incarnations, most notably the 1960s Batman TV series, Commissioner Gordon also has a dedicated phone line, dubbed the Bat-Phone, connected to a bright red telephone (in the TV series) which sits on a wooden base and has a transparent cake cover on top. The line connects directly to Batman’s residence, Wayne Manor, specifically both to a similar phone sitting on the desk in Bruce Wayne’s study and the extension phone in the Batcave.
