Spider-man is the first super hero that is a teenager. Up until he appeared, teens were mainly used as sidekicks or bit parts in the super hero cult. However, as teens were mainly the ones buying the magazines/merchandise it dawned on the creators that they could be onto something with a teen superhero.
Peter Parker is a typical teenage high school student. Self obsessed with rejection, loneliness and feelings of inadequacy is something most teens relate to. Peter who is a science whiz is living with his Aunt and Uncle after being orphaned. During a science exhibition on a school field trip he is bitten by a radio-active spider, which leads him to obtain the agility of a spider (i.e. quick moving). Along with super strength (a common trait in super heroes) he finds he has the ability to “stick” to walls and ceilings, much like spiders can. With his scientific skills he is able to design and make a gadget that fires sticky webbing through small wrist mounted barrels (again his own design). Peter then dons the now familiar costume to become Spider-man and fights a variety of bad guys, his nemesis being the Green Goblin, who it turns out is his best friends father!
In addition to his super human strength, and the fact he can cling to walls and ceilings without falling off, he also has what he refers to as his “spider sense” which is a sixth sense alerting him to any current danger. His balance while as Spider-man is fantastic as is his super human speed and agility. The “web slingers” also can do more than just shoot the sticky webbing. Peter designed them so that he can change what they shoot, from the rope like that he uses to swing from place to place, building to building with, a net to capture enemies with, a single strand to pull bad guys into objects, and strands for making whips to use in sending foreign objects into the enemies. He can also make the web slinger shoot just a blob to blind enemies, or stop machinery working. Interestingly, he can also weave the webbing into different facilities, like a shield, a barrier or even a hang-glider wing!
Other equipment he uses includes spider tracers (homing beacons) that are tuned to his spider sense, so he can home in on them to find either the way home, the bad guy, or whatever he may have stuck them on. He also has access to a light beacon which can be a flash light or a spider signal (Batman anyone?)
Although our costumes wont let you “fly” or “swing” like Spider-man, you will see from our range we stock the most commonly seen colour way that Peter Parker used. We also have in the black suit that made an appearance in the Spider-man 3 film.
