The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (also known as the Ninja Turtles are a team of four anthropomorphic turtles, who were trained by their rat sensei in the art or Ninjitsu. They are named after Renaissance artists basically from Italy. From their home in the sewers of New York City they battle petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs and alien invaders- all while being isolated from society at large. The Ninja turtles originally appeared in comic books before being licensed for cartoons, toys, video games, films and other merchandise. They really are somewhat young teenage men/boys in their actions many times and indeed just in how they think. They are not terribly mature but certainly know how to use their fighting skills to beat their enemies.

The four “turtles” are Leonardo (aka Leo), he is the courageous leader and devoted student of martial arts. He wears a blue mask and wields two katana and is the oldest of the gang. He is the most skilled fighter and is named after the Italian polymath, scientist, engineer, inventor,anatomist and painter Leonardo Da Vinci.

Raphael (aka Raph) is the gangs bad boy, he wears a red mask and wields a pair of Sai. He has an aggressive nature and seldom hesitates to throw the first punch. He is an intense fighter and speaks with a Brooklyn accent. His personality can be alternatively fierce and sarcastic and he often delivers deadpan humor. In spite of this he is intensely loyal to his brothers and his sensei. He is named after the Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance Raphael.

Michelangelo (aka Mike or Mikey) is easy going and free spirited. He wears an orange mask and wields a pair of nunchucks. Michelangelo provides much of the comic relief and is the youngest of the turtles. While he loves to relax he also has an adventurous and creative side. He is something of a “surfer boy” he speaks in a Southern Californian accent. He is named after renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Donatello (aka Don or Donny) is the knowledgeable scientist, engineer and technological genius. He wears the purple mask and wields the bo staff. He is perhaps the less violent of the turtles, preferring to use his knowledge to solve problems. He is named after sculptor Donatello.

Although these guys were extremely popular a number of years ago they still hold a special place in many people’s hearts as they are both endearing and fun in their outlook. The suits are comfortable to wear as not too figure-hugging so always a good choice if you don’t want to feel too vulnerable.
